I didn't set out to build a health app.
I was just trying to breathe.

Stuart Hall, Founder of Vital Signal

For nearly 20 years, I lived with a chronic respiratory condition that no specialist could fully explain. I saw pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, allergists, and ENTs. I tried elimination diets, long-term antibiotics, supplements by the handful, and more Prednisone cycles than I can count.

Every few weeks, the symptoms would flare, I'd get a prescription, feel better for a while, and then the cycle would start again.

At 45, a pulmonologist told me I had COPD, a progressive, irreversible lung disease. I remember sitting in that waiting room, looking around at patients in wheelchairs, and thinking: this is where I'm headed.

I refused to accept that.

The Experiment

$2 million worth of insight, $0 budget

I'd read about Bryan Johnson spending $2 million a year on longevity. What struck me wasn't the money. It was the method. Continuous data collection. Pattern recognition across thousands of variables. The ability to see connections that no single doctor's appointment could surface.

I couldn't afford a team of scientists. But I had access to AI.

I started logging everything. What I ate, how I slept, what I felt, when symptoms flared. I fed it all to an AI system I'd configured to look for patterns. Not diagnoses. Patterns.

The Discovery

What 20 years of specialists missed

Within weeks, the AI identified something my doctors had missed for two decades: my respiratory symptoms weren't originating in my lungs. They were being triggered by laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), a form of silent reflux that causes chronic airway inflammation. It sits at the intersection of pulmonology, gastroenterology, and ENT, which is exactly why no single specialist caught it. Medicine is siloed. My condition wasn't.

The critical difference: unlike COPD, LPR-driven inflammation is reversible. Once I understood the trigger, I could address it. The Prednisone cycles stopped. The flare-ups became manageable, then rare. For the first time in years, I could sleep through the night, think clearly, and work out without reaching for an inhaler.

The Realization

Built to survive. Shared to help.

I didn't build this system on purpose. I built it to survive. But when I saw what it could do, find a signal buried in years of noise that trained specialists had missed, I knew it could help other people.

Not everyone has a mystery illness. But almost everyone has health patterns they can't see: why certain foods trigger brain fog, why sleep quality tanks after specific activities, why symptoms cluster in ways that seem random but aren't.

That's what Vital Signal does. You log what you eat, what you do, and how you feel. The AI finds the patterns. You decide what to do with them.

Why This Exists

The layer that's been missing

Doctors are brilliant, but they see you for 15 minutes a few times a year. They work from snapshots. Vital Signal works from the full picture. Every meal, every symptom, every change. The more you use it, the more context it has to work with.

This isn't a replacement for medical care. It's the layer that's been missing: a system that listens continuously, connects the dots across every part of your health, and gives you something actionable to bring to your next appointment or to try on your own.

I built this because I needed it. I'm sharing it because I think you might too.
